Shanghai, China, June 6, 2025 – Under the organization and leadership of the US-China Cultural and Arts Exchange Association, the Utah Youth Dance Troupe successfully held the “Craftsmanship Shapes the World, Dance Weaves Dreams” 2025 US-China Youth Cultural and Arts Exchange Performance today at the East Building Auditorium of Shanghai Arts and Crafts Vocational College. This event marks the fourth time the Association has organized a US youth arts group to visit China, and is also an important milestone in US-China educational cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative's people-to-people exchanges.
Shanghai, China, 6 June 2025 — Under the auspices of the American Chinese Cultural and Arts Exchange Association (ACCAEA), the Utah Youth Dance Troupe presented “Crafting Dreams through Dance,” a 2025 China–US youth cultural and artistic exchange performance, today in the East Hall of Shanghai Art & Design Academy. The event marks the Association's fourth visit to China with an American youth arts ensemble and represents a major milestone in people-to-people cooperation between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.
Cultural exchange, art as a bridge
Cultural exchange, with art as the bridge
As a core part of the Shanghai Arts and Crafts Vocational College's International Exchange Week, this event was not only a performance but also a profound cultural dialogue. Guided by their Chinese partners, the American teenage dancers experienced firsthand traditional Chinese intangible cultural heritage techniques such as cloisonné enamel, woodblock printing, and Shanghai-style paper cutting, appreciating the unique charm of Eastern aesthetics.
The president of the US-China Cultural and Arts Exchange Association stated, "We believe that art is a universal language. Today, young dancers from Utah and students from Shanghai are weaving bridges of understanding through dance and handicrafts. This is the fourth time the association has led American teenagers to visit China, and each exchange deepens our understanding and respect for Chinese culture."
As the centerpiece of Shanghai Art & Design Academy's International Exchange Week, the program was far more than a concert; it was an in-depth cultural dialogue. Guided by their Chinese peers, the young American dancers tried their hands at cloisonné, wood-block watermarks and Shanghai-style paper-cutting, experiencing first-hand the distinctive charm of traditional Chinese intangible heritage.
“Art is the universal language of humankind,” said the President of ACCAEA. “Today, dancers from Utah and students from Shanghai wove a bridge of understanding through dance and craftsmanship. Each of our four visits has deepened our respect for and knowledge of Chinese culture.”
A two-screen performance, dancing between East and West.
Two-act program dances East and West
This performance is divided into two main parts:
The first chapter, "Dance Across the Ocean," showcases the diverse facets of American dance. Dance elites from Utah's elementary, middle, and high schools and universities presented a rich program of professional skill, including the passionate samba, the elegant and romantic waltz, the free and improvisational jazz, and the energetic street dance, demonstrating the fruitful results of arts education for American youth.
The second chapter, "Dance and Shadow Intertwined," witnessed a creative dialogue between Chinese and American art. Dancers from Utah collaborated with students from the Shanghai Academy of Arts and Crafts and the Affiliated Dance School of the Shanghai Theatre Academy, incorporating Eastern and Western elements into their choreography to create a refreshing dance language that interpreted the infinite possibilities of cultural fusion.
The performance unfolded in two movements:
Act I, “Rhythms Across the Ocean,” showcased the diversity of American dance. Elite dancers from elementary, middle-school and university levels in Utah delivered professional-level samba, elegant waltz, improvisational jazz and high-energy street dance, illustrating the rich results of US youth arts education.
Act II, “Intertwining Shadows,” witnessed a creative dialogue between Chinese and American artists. Utah dancers shared the stage with students from Shanghai Art & Design Academy and the affiliated dance school of Shanghai Theater Academy, blending Eastern and Western elements in choreography that forged a refreshing dance vocabulary and illustrated the limitless possibilities of cultural convergence.
Let's keep up the good work and create a better future together.

A Look at the Global Digital Trade Expo | 2024 AI International Piano Competition
2024.09.30
On the afternoon of September 28, 2024, at the Hangzhou Convention and Exhibition Center, the 2024 AI International Piano Competition finals, as part of the 3rd Global Digital Trade Expo, concluded successfully amidst enthusiastic applause.
At the invitation of Professor Zhou Keng, the organizer and artistic director of this competition, and Professor Zhu Mei, the chairman of the competition jury, from the Piano Department of Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, pianist/composer and president of the US-China Cultural and Artistic Exchange Association, Dong Rongcan, as the sole observer and commentator for the competition, participated in the intensive preparation work and felt the warm and friendly cooperative atmosphere of the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music Piano Department team.
Before the competition, Dong Rongcan, as one of the important guests, participated in a meeting with Lu Shan, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province.
This AI International Piano Competition is a groundbreaking and landmark international event: 1. It combines high technology, allowing performances by international contestants from around the world to be transmitted in real-time via MIDI signals to the piano at the competition venue, enabling the audience to hear the actual performances. The metal wires produce sounds with varying degrees of softness and dynamic contrast as they are struck by the keyboard hammers. 2. It combines online and offline judges from China and abroad, with AI participating in scoring and providing comments.
This competition was judged by renowned judges from Italy, Hungary, the United States, and Russia, as well as professors from the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music's Piano Department. Seven contestants, including Sergei Davychenko, winner of the 2023 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition, participated in the finals. After 105 minutes of performances, the nine judges went into a room to discuss the rankings. On stage, commentator Dong Rongcan provided commentary and summaries of the competition, answered audience questions, and engaged in interactive activities (see photo).
Dong Rongcan emphasized that the involvement of AI technology highlights the fairness and impartiality of the competition. Furthermore, AI will belong to people and serve piano art education, serving as a valuable tool to improve teachers' teaching quality, enhance students' learning efficiency, shorten the practice cycle of new pieces, and broaden students' artistic horizons. However, the ultimate emotional expression of music remains human-centered, something that no amount of high technology can replace.
Following the conclusion of the first AI International Piano Competition and an invitation from the 4th Global Digital Trade Expo, the second AI International Piano Competition is already on the agenda and preparations are about to begin.

He highly praised the teaching facilities and museum collections of Shandong University of Arts and Crafts, and showcased the charm of the University of Utah College of Art in a short film.
Editor-in-Chief Yu Tianzhu, as a cultural and artistic communicator, shared her experiences and insights in disseminating digital art and culture. She believes that art forms can be digitized, and that digital art possesses excellent communicability and media value, enabling collaboration across various fields. She also pointed out that "culture is the soul of art." Yu Tianzhu discussed the importance of cultural soft power, illustrating her experience in using art activities for cultural dissemination, and expressed regret that much of excellent traditional culture has not been disseminated overseas.
Dr. Dong Rongcan compared the soundtracks of animated films from China, Japan, and the United States during the same period, briefly introducing the structural names of music in animated films and suggesting a correspondence with the concepts of introduction, development, transition, and turning point in classical Chinese poetry. He used the example of Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi to illustrate the importance of music in animated films. Dr. Dong Rongcan played representative excerpts of animated soundtracks from various countries and historical periods. He argued that the lavishness of American animation and the professionalism of Japanese animation inspired Chinese animated film score production to innovate in subject matter and orchestration techniques while maintaining a strong connection to the theme, and not to abandon China's national characteristics.
