Opening dance: "Active Life"Where there is life, there is hope.
From June 1st to 12th, 2018, the American Youth and College Students Art Troupe visited several Chinese universities, including the Fengxian Conference Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts, Shanghai Business and Foreign Languages Vocational College, and North China Electric Power University, attracting more than 20,000 teachers and students. The entire performance was also broadcast live online, garnering over 500,000 views.
The art troupe mainly consisted of nearly one hundred members from three units: the world-renowned Brigham Young University delegation, the Utah Latin Folk Dance Troupe full of South American flair, and the energetic Utah Valley University Street Dance Troupe. With diverse artistic presentations and unconventional performance styles, they presented a magnificent feast of song and dance to Chinese teachers and students.
Part One: Discovering DISCOVERIn a child's eyes, life is bright and moving.
Among them, "Doorway" features modernly dressed men and women dancing lightly, showcasing contemporary youthful energy; "Cape Canaveral" features exotic female vocals paired with sky-clear music, and the dance of men and women presents us with a picture of a mountain landscape; "Argentina Medley" features men waving bright red capes and women holding up dark blue skirts, creating a striking contrast.
Part Two: The StruggleToday's difficulties will become tomorrow's strength.
Youthful exuberance, courage, and relentless striving. The dancers, brimming with youthful energy and passion, captivated the audience with their highly infectious performance. The stage design, lighting, and effects complemented each other perfectly, drawing endless praise. In addition to the dance performance, there was also an ethereal instrumental rendition of "The Eagle's Song," its lingering melody resonating long after the performance.
Chapter Three: StrengthIn the process of striving, we discover the strength and beauty within ourselves.
Strength gives us the confidence to face all difficulties, to keep our steps firm, and to move forward without hesitation! This chapter combines strength and grace, featuring powerful street dance, familiar and beautiful Disney classic songs, passionate and unrestrained folk dances, and elegant and charming ballroom dances, making it a feast for the eyes and a place you'll want to linger.
Chapter Four: Joy
The performance featured elegant ballet; captivating tango; dynamic street dance; and folk dances from Bolivia, Africa, Argentina, Ecuador, and Costa Rica, each with its own unique charm, showcasing the captivating cultural characteristics and customs of different countries. The program also included a rich array of dance elements, including modern dance, jazz, and Latin. The music was diverse, innovative, and full of passion and energy. The exciting finale featured a small band with distinctly South American flair and a large, energetic group dance, bringing the performance to a climax.
The entire performance resonated with the audience through its dynamic music and captivating physical performances. The audience frequently swayed and clapped along to the beat, dancing and sharing the emotions with the performers. As the host, students from various universities also presented performances rich in Chinese characteristics, brilliantly showcasing the gentle grace and delicate beauty of Chinese dance, and engaging in exchange with the American Youth (University Students) Art Troupe visiting China.
A vibrant dance extravaganza blending Chinese and Western cultures, featuring youth from the three sister cities of Shanghai, Beijing, and Utah showcasing diverse ethnic cultures, was not only an exchange and collision of Chinese and American cultures, but also a spiritual exchange that transcended national borders. The tour will also be a highlight of the 2018 Sino-US youth and university student cultural and artistic exchange.
