2025 China–U.S. Youth Cultural and Artistic Exchange Concludes Successfully

Shanghai, China, 6 June 2025 — Under the auspices of the American Chinese Cultural and Arts Exchange Association (ACCAEA), the Utah Youth Dance Troupe presented “Crafting Dreams through Dance,” a 2025 China–U.S. youth cultural and artistic exchange performance, today in the East Hall of Shanghai Art & Design Academy. The event marks the Association’s fourth visit to China with an American youth arts ensemble and represents a major milestone in people-to-people cooperation between the two countries under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.

Cultural exchange, with art as the bridge

As the centerpiece of Shanghai Art & Design Academy’s International Exchange Week, the program was far more than a concert; it was an in-depth cultural dialogue. Guided by their Chinese peers, the young American dancers tried their hands at cloisonné, wood-block watermarks and Shanghai-style paper-cutting, experiencing first-hand the distinctive charm of traditional Chinese intangible heritage.

“Art is the universal language of humankind,” said the President of ACCAEA. “Today, dancers from Utah and students from Shanghai wove a bridge of understanding through dance and craftsmanship. Each of our four visits has deepened our respect for and knowledge of Chinese culture.”

Two-act program dances East and West

The performance unfolded in two movements:

Act I, “Rhythms Across the Ocean,” showcased the diversity of American dance. Elite dancers from elementary, middle-school and university levels in Utah delivered professional-level samba, elegant waltz, improvisational jazz and high-energy street dance, illustrating the rich results of U.S. youth arts education.

Act II, “Intertwining Shadows,” witnessed a creative dialogue between Chinese and American artists. Utah dancers shared the stage with students from Shanghai Art & Design Academy and the affiliated dance school of Shanghai Theatre Academy, blending Eastern and Western elements in choreography that forged a refreshing dance vocabulary and illustrated the limitless possibilities of cultural convergence.

Sustained effort, a shared future

Since its founding, ACCAEA has been committed to promoting educational and cultural cooperation between the United States and China. This exchange not only displayed the artistic talent of American youth, but also demonstrated the positive outcomes of people-to-people exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative.

“We treasure every opportunity to collaborate with our Chinese partners,” the Association President added. “These young faces represent the future of both nations. Through art they learn to respect differences and appreciate diversity—an invaluable lifelong gift.”

Looking ahead

With the successful conclusion of this exchange, ACCAEA has already begun planning the next round of programs. The Association will continue to build platforms that foster deeper interaction between Chinese and American youth in the arts, education and beyond, injecting lasting vitality into bilateral cultural exchange and jointly painting a beautiful panorama of cooperation.
